ST. FARNAN'S LADIES

Disappointment was the order of the day on Saturday when the club returned empty handed once again from the All-Ireland Scór na nÓg finals which were held in the TF Theatre in Castlebar. For the members of our Quiz team, Eimear and Paddy O'Connor and Stephen Mulligan, it was the early rounds which proved to be the stumbling block and despite a tremendous recovery in the final rounds, they were unable to close the gap. However this is a predominantly young team and I'm sure we haven't seen the last of them at this stage of the competition. Sincere thanks to Martin and Grace Mulligan and Kieran and Mary O'Connor and also to Frances Hanley for their work with this and other quiz teams over the years and also to all those who made the journey on Saturday to support the team.

And so the end of another year in Scór na nÓg is upon us and as in previous years we pay tribute at this time to those competitors who have represented our club with distinction in the past but will no longer be eligible to compete on account of age. This year we say goodbye to Róisín Kilgannon, one of the most successful Scór na nÓg participants, in both club and county. Way back in January 2006, as a youthful member of the Club's Ballad Group, she won the first of a remarkable fifteen Co. titles, covering five different disciplines. She has three Connacht titles to her credit, a club and county record which she shares with clubmate Ailbhe Dunne, both having been members of the victorious Novelty Acts of 2008 & 2010 and last years Instrumental Music Group.

Anyone interested in taking part in Scór Sinsir should give their name to Frances Hanley. The Co. Finals are due to take place on March 10th.
Well done to Marie Ruane who made her adult inter county debut on Sunday when she was introduced at wing back just ten minutes into the Div 3 Lge. game against Roscommon in Cloonacool in a game which saw Sligo record it's first win out of three starts under new manager Pat Costelloe. Jackie Mulligan who missed Sundays' encounter played in the two previous games while Ciara Kearins is also a member of the squad. Another St Farnan's connection to the county set up sees Noel Knox drafted in as a selector. We wish him the best of luck in his new role.

We are continuing to collect old mobile phones for which we hope to receive a set of jerseys for our U-8's and U-10's. Phones may be given to any club official or left in the special box provided in Costcutter's Supermarket, Dromore West.
