TG4 Connacht Senior Final Replay
Galway v Mayo
Gaelic Grounds, Limerick
Saturday 6th July 2019
Referee: John Niland (Sligo)
The eagerly-awaited TG4 Connacht Senior Championship Final replay between Galway and Mayo has been fixed for 4pm this Saturday, July 6, at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick. The fixture will precede the All-Ireland men’s SFC Round 4 qualifier match between the two counties, at 7pm.
After the highly-entertaining game played almost two weeks ago at Elvery’s MacHale Park in Castlebar, Mayo manager Peter Leahy will be hoping the his side can produce a full game like the performance they put in for the second half of the first encounter. On that occasion, Mayo trailed Galway by four points at half-time, conceded the first point of the second half, but hit back with a bang. Rachel Kearns scored two goals, Grace Kelly another, as Mayo outscored Galway in the second period. Mayo are also boosted by the availability of captain Niamh Kelly, who’s available to play having had her red card from the drawn game rescinded.
Galway manager Tim Rabbit will be hoping that his side can retain their TG4 Connacht senior title at the second time of asking. They’ll also hope that skipper Tracey Leonard can reproduce the form that saw her score five points, including the equalising score, in the first game.
Whatever happens on Saturday, we are guaranteed that this is going to be a nip and tuck affair that will go right down to the wire. We have two of the best footballing sides in the country going head-to-head to be crowned Connacht Champions for 2019. There’s only one place to be at 4pm on Saturday – and that’s the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick.
