Covid19: Ladies Gaelic Football Association Statement
The Ladies Gaelic Football Association has noted and studied the publication of the Road Map for reopening the country, issued by the Government on Friday May 1st.
The LGFA will continue to engage and work closely with the relevant authorities and the GAA in relation to all matters.
The LGFA has at all times adhered to the safety guidelines issued by the Government and health authorities, and will continue to do so.
The Management Committee of the LGFA’s Central Council met remotely on Thursday evening (May 7th) and in light of the current situation, it was agreed to change the registration date for 2020 to August 1st, in an effort to assist clubs.
The registration dates for 2021, 2022 and 2023 will be July 1st, June 1st and April 1st respectively.
During the weekend, the LGFA has consulted with county team captains, managers, referees, club and county executives, through surveys, to gather their views as we work through our current circumstances.
The TG4 All-Ireland Championship will not take place in the format and timeline as planned – and further clarification will be issued on this shortly.
LGFA CEO Helen O’Rourke commented: “I thank all of our members for their ongoing and continued support in these challenging times, and I compliment them for the tremendous work they are carrying out within their local communities.
“I urge all of you to continue to adhere to the current guidelines in place – and stay safe.
“While we must plan for the future, the health and safety of our members is our main priority at the present time.
INJURY FUND - UPDATE
Following the updates provided by the Government and the continuation of this suspension, we continue to review the situation and have received a number enquires about the LGFA Injury Fund.
As you will know, it is a condition of the LGFA Injury Fund that cover is only in place for injuries sustained during an official competitive/challenge game or an official supervised training session. As these activities have been suspended since March 12th, the Injury Fund was also considered suspended. However as this situation evolves, so too does our clubs, teams and players ability to communicate with each other and keep up their training routines.
Taking this into account, the Management Committee of Central Council have decided to extend the Injury Fund terms and conditions at this time to reflect the ongoing training programmes available to players and the online training being participated in by our club and county teams.
Where a player sustains an injury whilst participating in an officially prescribed LGFA training programme, this will be covered under the terms and conditions of the LGFA Injury Fund on receipt of additional documentation.
In order for a claim to be opened in this instance, proof of the officially prescribed training session being received by the claimant prior to the date of injury must be submitted along with the preliminary claim form. This will be reviewed before any claim is confirmed as opened under the Fund.
A prescribed LGFA programme is a training programme given to a player by their LGFA coach, so given the current situation coaches are providing instructions for training by email/text messages/by online video. If a player sustains an injury whilst following the direction of her coach and completing the training plan provided this will be covered under the LGFA Injury Fund. In order for a claim to be opened, a copy of the email/text/ online meeting request must be submitted along with the preliminary claim form which will be verified with the official club email address.
The process for preliminary claim forms and requests for prior approval remain unchanged from my email on March 13th and can continue to be submitted by email from the county secretaries email. Please ensure all clubs are made aware of this.
In the meantime, the Association is encouraging all members to continue to follow the guidelines which have been provided by the health authorities.
