U20 Championship
Hard luck to our u20 MacDiarmada Gaels lads that were in action against St Marys in Pairc Séan
On Sunday in this years county final. It was a close game with some excellent football on show from both teams in a game that could have gone either way. There was good performances all round from the lads with Paul Moran, Dillon Beirne and Barry McWeeney combing well to score a goal a piece. It was nip and tuck in the first quarter with St Mary’s leading by a point with a score of 1:03 to 1:02. The second quarter progressed the same with both teams adding scores and heading in level at the break with a score of 2:03 to 1:06. Both teams continued to trade scores in the second half with Carrick leading before Dillon Beirne scored a great goal and Barry McWeeney pointed to level, it looked like the tide was turning in our favour with Paul Moran scoring a ferocious point to put us 1 up with the score 3:10 to 2:12, St Marys though pushed forward and two minutes later grabbed a goal in the 57 minute to put them two points clear with only a couple of minutes of play left. We added another free to cut the gap to one but St Marys added a point of their own to win the match by two points and a final score of 3:13 to 3:11. The lads will be disappointed they put in a great effort but unfortunately St Marys ran out the victors.
