The Ladies Gaelic Football Association’s fifth ‘BUA’ Leadership and Life-skills programme is underway, with 44 young females selected to take part. 17 counties in Ireland are represented across the four provinces, as well as three participants from Britain.
‘BUA – Believe Unlock Potential Achieve’ is a self-development initiative aimed at developing the leadership skills of young people within the Ladies Gaelic Association, which, in turn, will benefit their local communities.
Aimed at females aged 16-19 years of age, ‘BUA’ will be conducted through expert-led workshops and self-reflection, before participants put their enhanced leadership skills into practice through a club action project.
Selected participants will receive support as they cover topics essential for young people, including:
  • Resilience
  • Dealing with change
  • Building trust and respect
  • Conflict resolution
  • Problem solving
  • Project planning and delegation
In addition, LGFA-specific topics including introductions to coaching, officiating and administration will be covered.
Welcoming the new 2026/2027 participants, Ladies Gaelic Football Association President, Trina Murray, said: “On behalf of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, a very warm welcome to the BUA Programme.
“Being selected is a real achievement, and you should be proud of it. It reflects the leadership you’ve already shown and your willingness to keep learning and growing.
“Over the coming months, you’ll build the skills, confidence and knowledge to lead, whether that’s in your club, your county, your school or your community. Just as important, you’ll do it alongside a group of people who share your ambition and who will become a valuable network for years to come.
“My advice is simple: get stuck in. Ask questions, back each other, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. That’s where the real growth happens.
“Our Association is changing and growing all the time, and we need strong, confident leaders to shape what comes next. I have no doubt that we have many of those leaders in our latest BUA programme. Enjoy every minute of it.”
