Christy Creamer - famous footballer dies in New York

The death took place last week in New York of Christy Creamer, one of the legendary Leitrim footballers of the 1940s. Christy was born in Curraghnawall, Ballinamore and played for both Ballinamore and Aughawillan. In 1941 he played for Leitrim in the Connacht Championship and was described as the "first Aughawillan man to wear the County jersey". Christy went to work in Fermanagh and was duly picked to play with Fermanagh. In 1945 he was on the Fermanagh team that reached the Ulster Senior Final where they were beaten by Cavan.
Christy emigrated shortly after this and was in New York for the famous All Ireland Final in the Polo Grounds in 1947 when Cavan beat Kerry. Christy recalled when we interviewed him in 2003 that many of the same Cavan team that he had played against in 1945 were playing for Cavan in the Polo Grounds. Christy joined the Leitrim club in New York and served in various capacities with the club. He was selected on the Leitrim New York team which made a historic tour of Ireland in 1948; in fact he was Captain of the team. Christy was married to Pat Duffy from Fenagh and was an uncle of Patsy Creamer, Lahard. Christy was 92 years of age and had spent about 67 years in New York.

An tAthair Séamus Ó Dubhthaigh - ar shlí na firinne

Fuair an tAthair Séamus Ó Dubhthaigh bás an tseachtain seo caite agus cuireadh é i Reilig Uachtar Achadh ar an Aoine. Fr Duffy was a Vice President of the Ballinamore Seán Ó Heslins club. In earlier times Fr Duffy was very involved in the GAA. He took up the position of Chairman of the North Leitrim Board in 1955 and, along with Fr John A Young as Vice Chairman, had a big input into stabilising the football scene in North Leitrim. He was also involved in the revival of the Ballinaglera GAA club and the development of their pitch. Go ndéana Dia trócaire air.

Great Turnout at Sean O' Heslin's Operation Transformation 2013

Connacht Scór

Best of luck to Grace O'Reillys who will take part in the Connacht Finals in aithriseoireacht on Saturday in Castlebar. Good luck to all the Leitrim competitors.

Leitrim ar an mbóthar ceart !

We just had two great weekends for Leitrim football in the Park, with victories over Mayo and GMIT. Great to see a considerable Seán O'Heslin's presence too. Wayne McKeon was much to the fore in both games and Cian Reynolds, son of Colm Reynolds from Edentenny, made his first appearance for Leitrim following his county transfer from Kildare to Leitrim. Shane McWeeney made his appearance on the GMIT team in the second half. And of course not forgetting the Leitrim joint-manager is Brian Breen, along with George Dugdale. Things are looking bright on the football scene.

Leitrim GAA Supporters Club

Tickets for the Leitrim GAA Supporters Club are now available from club officers. Make sure you get your ticket through club officers as the club is required to sell a minimum amount of tickets.
