Westport's U12 girls secure their place at Div. 1 Finals Day:
Having participated in a series of non-competitive, small sided games in this season's new U12 county structure, Saturday 29th June saw our U12 girls play their first competitive games for 2013.

At a windy and overcast Kilmeena GAA Pitch, we played two 15 a side, 20 minutes per half games.
In the first game against Louisburgh, Westport's girls got off to a flying start, dominating possession and picked off some great scores. In the second half, playing with the wind, Westport kept up the same momentum which resulted in an emphatic win: Westport 3-9 Louisburgh 1-0.
Westport then progressed to the Semi Final v. Burrishoole. Both teams played well but as time went on Westport looked the more comfortable and began to take control. A good win in the end for Westport on a scoreline of 1-13 to 0-0 and place secured at U12  Div. 1 Finals later this season.
It was impossible to single out any player as each gave everything in terms of effort and commitment. Well done girls!

Thanks to all parents who travelled to this Regional Blitz and to host club, Kilmeena Ladies, for their hospitality on the day.

Westport Division 3 Ladies
On Wednesday evening 26th Westport B traveled to aughamore to play St. Marys in round 3 of the adult league. Westport had a very young team  traveling to play this game and as st. Marys are a new team in the league the outcome was really unpredictable as both teams had 1 win up to this. The majority of the westport team were under 16 and St. Marys had very few under 16 but after 5 minuets of play it was plain to see that westport were more skillful and playing better football but would this be enough to win. In the end it was and as the game wore on better westport got. The only real threat to St. Marys had was their center half forward who was marshaled very well by Zoe Burke in the first half and Serena O Shea in the second when zoe moved to mid field.Up front westport were well on top and took some fine scores, with the final of 4/8 to 7/12 being a fair reflection of westports dominance.

On friday evening 28th Westport B played Claremorris at home in round 6 of the league, again westport had a vwry young team out with only two players older than minor and the majority under 16. This shud be an easy win for claremorris as they were runners up in this division last year but the team they fielded in westport was only a shadow of the team that played this fixture last year.Claremorris started well and had 4 shots on goal 2wide and 2taken from under the crossbar by westports goolie Roisin Scott who had a good game, before westport had an attack.Westport then scored 2 point before Claremorris got their first goal to take the lead, but Westport were starting to dominate around the middel and the forward runs from center half back Zoe Burke and wing back Shauna Sammon were causing big problema for the claremorris defence. Westport scored 2more points to retake the lead and moved further ahead with their first goal only to have claremorris strike back for their second, but this didnt upset the young westport team who added 2 more points before the break to go in at half time leading 1/6 to 2 goals. The secnod half was totally dominated by westport finishing on a score line of 4/17 to 2 goals.

Scorers for westport Karen Reynolds 2/2, Becky Gavin 2/1 ,Tara Hastings 0/6, Laoise Kelly 0/3 Lauren Burke 0/2, Zoe Burke, Anna Scott, Nicole Gannon 0/1 each
