Westport L.G.F.C.'s U8s and U10s perform well at Achill Blitz:
Well done to all our girls who participated in Achill's U10 Blitz on Saturday last. Our two U10 teams played four matches each and our U8s played one game. The girls deserve credit for displaying great persistence and an ability to never give up- even in the soaring
temperatures.
Management would like to thank all parents for their help and support on the day as well as bus driver, Chris, for his patience and assistance.

Westport's girls who took part:

Westport Junior , Division 3 Ladies travelled to the Neale on Saturday last to take on the home side in the division 3 simi final. When these teams met in the league in Westport the neale came out on top so westport knew they would have it all to do to reverse that result, but having a slightly stronger team they had not given up hope of a good result. From the start it was
obvious this was going to be a close affair with the Neale getting the better of most of the 50/50 balls using their strenght advantage to good effect and the fact that the ref. was allowing all physical play go unpunished was also in favour of the Neale. The to and fro nature of the game was reflected on the scoreboard with the Neale getting the first score after ten minuits and it was three minuts more before Westport replied, but at this stage the Neale looked to have the edge and started to get a few scores but Westport just kept in touch, and the changes made by their sideline team had the desired effect Zoe Burke was Replaced at
center half back by Sheafra O Grady and Sarah Doherty replaced by Niamh McNea at wing forward, which left the half time score The Neale 1/4, Westport 0/5.

The second half was like the first but westports young team seemed to be coping better with the physical nature of the game. half way through the half the Neale opened up their biggest lead going 4 points ahead but on this hot evening the fresh legs introduced by Westport as they emptied the bench were more effective than The Neale as they did the same, but
westport leveled the game with three minutes to go with some fine scores and when the ref. blue for full time nobody wanted the extra time as both sides had given their all. full time score was Westport1/11, The
Neale 2/8.
Extra time was a one way affair Westport dominated both halves with some players being brought on again,to run out winners on a scoreline of Westport 1/20, The Neale 2/10.

Good for westport were Deirdre Keane full back Ellen Moran and Siobhan Golden at Mid field and Niamh Mc Nea and Nicole Gannon Up Front.

Scorers for Westport, Shauna Sammon 1/2 T. Hastings 0/5 Nicole Gannon 0/4,
Ellen Moran and Kirsten
Walsh 0/3,Emma Higgins, Ciara Moran and Karen Reynolds 0/1.
