Senior Division 1 League against Naomh Muire in Páirc Naomh Muire on Saturday at 5.00

Juniors Win in Div 3 League

Our second team had a good win over Gaeil na hAilne on Sunday morning to keep them in the hunt for promotion and a place in the Division 2 Final.  With just one round of games to go we are on 16 points just one point behind joint leaders Dromahair and Mohill. We won 8 games and lost two and we certainly were most consistent because the only two games we lost were to leaders Dromahair and Mohill by three points and four points respectively. Out final game is against Annaduff but we will be depending on other results even if we win that game. On Sunday we had a very young team on duty and they got a very bad start and were 1-3 down before they knew where they were. However, they recovered great and Allen Gaels didn't score for the rest of the half and we got five points, two each from Ronan O'Rourke and Paul Prior and one from Mark McGrory. 1-3 to 0-5 to Allen Gaels ag leath-am.
We really dominated the second half and with Paul Prior deadly from frees, he scored four, and Luke Murphy popping over three from play the result was never in doubt. Scór ag an deireadh 0-15 go 1-5

Foireann: Denis Dolan, John Fanning, Anthony Maguire, Shane Creamer. Philip Murphy, Ronan O'Rourke (0-2), Kevin O'Connor, Paul McLoughlin (0-1), Dean McGovern (0-1), Anthony McTague, Paul Prior (0-6,5f), Andrew Burns, Conor Moran, Mark McGrory (0-2), Luke Murphy (0-3). Subs Keelan McHugh for P Murphy, Ryan Gavin for M McGrory.

Trip to International Rules game in Cavan for 13-19 year olds

Then after the match there will be music from Fresh Ray, Bipolar Empire and Ham Sandwich, all in the gig rig. A bus will leave Ballinamore at 1pm on Saturday and will return at midnight. The only cost is €5 which includes the bus, match, conference and music. Text Patsy Connaughton at 087 6846578 to book a place.

Under 16 Girls lose to St Brigid's

Our under 16 girls lost to St Brigid's but were unlucky to concede defeat only in the last 5 minutes. At half time O'Heslin's led by 2-9 to 1-2. They were still ahead by a point with about five minutes to go but St Brigid's got two goals and ended up four point winners. Foireann: Niamh Toolan, Frances Farry, Cait Connaughton, Lisa Maguire (Capt), Róisín McHugh, Emily Sweeney, Leighanne Flynn (1-0), Eilish O'Dowd (1-1), Ciara McGoldrick (0-1), Emma McGovern (2-4), Rachel Creamer (0-1), Grace Wrynn, Katie Cullen. Subs: Colette McGirl, Shaneen McGovern, Aoife Murphy.

Under 16 Boys

Our under 16 boys beat Melvin Gaels by 5-7 to 0-8 and this win puts them into the Final. Three wins out of three puts us top of the table but we have to await other results to be sure of our opponents.

Under 16 Hurlers

Our Under 16 hurlers took part in the Under 16 Championship which was run on a blitz format this year. They lost to eventual winners Cluainín. Foireann: Barry McGovern, Aaron Hoare, Ronan Maxwell, Adam Goldrick, Damien Creaven, Niall McGovern, Mark O'Reilly, Pierce Dolan, Donal Feely, Peter Reynolds, Conor Cullen, Aaron McLoughlin, Conor Hession, Darren Maxwell, Dara Murphy. Subs: Andrew Hession, Michael Prior, Alan Wrynn

Under 13 Football

Our U-13s play in the 13 a side final against Leitrim Gaels next Sunday in Cloone at 3pm. Please come along and support the team.

Table Quiz

The club will be hosting a Table Quiz on Sunday week 27 October, the Bank Holiday weekend, in Priors. All adult players are asked to organise teams or at least be on a team. This is a new fund-raising effort that we haven't tried before and we ask players to make a special effort to support it.

Launch of Health Club

The club is participating in the GAA's Health Club initiative and the launch of it will take place in the Park on the Monday of the Bank Holiday weekend. The Lotto will also take place in the Park on that Monday. More details later.

Death of Sr Cecilia Heslin

A historic link with the Seán O'Heslin's club ended last weekend with the death of Sr Cecilia Heslin who died in Castlebar at 89 years of age. Sr Cecilia was the only child of Seán O'Heslin, after whom our club is named. Sr Cecilia's mother died at childbirth or shortly afterwards and she was reared by the McTague Family, Aughnasheelin. Her father died when she was only 18 in 1942. She joined the Mercy Order in Castlebar and spent all of her working life there teaching Irish and Music at second level. She had a huge interest in Leitrim and followed the fortunes of Leitrim footballers to the last. She was present at some of the club's big celebrations including the opening of our stand and pitches in May 2009. (Her picture alongside Uachtarán, Criostóir Ó Cuana can be seen on our website under Pictures/Pictiúir). Her removal and funeral in Castlebar brought great crowds due to the fact that she taught generations of children who had fond memories of her. Her coffin was carried by Leitrim people in Castlebar to the church on Saturday. The club was represented at her removal by Cisteoir John D'Arcy who was related to the O'Heslin family. Sympathy is extended to the D'Arcy and McTague families. Suaimhneas síoraí dá hanam

Comhbhrón

Sympathy is extended to the Gill Family, Fenagh and the Smyth Family, Main St on the tragic death of Kalie Gill and the serious injury to her sister Lindsey last week in New York.
