ST. FARNAN'S LADIES
The various club teams celebrated the year just ended with two separate Presentation Functions held over the Christmas period. The underage players, up to and including U-16, joined with the boys in Dromore West Community Centre at which the highlight was the presentation of the âBâ Câship winners medals to the members of our U-12 side. Also receiving medals from a Blitz in which they participated were the members of our U-8 and U-10 teams. A number of individual awards were also presented with Katie Golden, Claire Dunne, Leah Kelly and Geraldine Ruane being named as Player of the Year at U-10, U-12, U-14 and U-16 respectively while in the same age groups Jade Scott, Roisin McHugh, Cassandra McCloat and Blaithin Cawley received recognition as being the Most Improved Player. All presentations were made by our special guests for the evening, Sligo Ladies Intermediate players, Emma Hansberry from St. Maryâs and Rachel Monaghan from Drumcliffe Rosses Point. We are extremely grateful to both girls for accepting our invitation to attend and their presence added much to the occasion. Thanks to all who helped out in any way with staging the event.
Later that same evening the Intermediate squad had their end of year get together in the Flying Horse where they were presented with their League runners-up medals by Gerry Beglane. And in a break with tradition it was decided that the players themselves rather than the management team, as had previously been the case, would select the Player of the Year with Ciara Kearins emerging as the winner after a ballot. Thanks to Gerry and his staff for the food served on the night.
In what is a further indication of a continual decline in interest in Scór na nóg in our club we will only have representation in one category in the provincial decider to be held in Castlebar later in the month. Our Ballad Group consisting of Aoife and Oisin Connolly, Siobhain Foy, Caoimhe Hynes and Darragh Giblin were our sole winners at the Co. Sligo finals which took place on Sunday last in Carraroe Hall with Damien McGuinness acting as M.C. However in a change to the traditional format the quiz section is being run separately this year. Further changes means teams will now have four members instead of three as was the case in the past with all questions now being team questions. Anyone interested in representing our club should give their name to Frances Hanley immediately.
Congratulations to club player Louise Morrisson who celebrated her 21st Birthday recently.
The Ladies Co. Bd. Dinner Dance and Presentation Night will take place on Sat. night next, the 11th, in the Clarion Hotel commencing at 7.30pm. Tickets for the event are available from Club Sec. Anne Ruane.
The Ladies Co, Bd. Annual Convention takes place in the Embassy on Monday, Jan 13th with an 8.30pm start.
Finally those involved with the club would like to wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2014.
