Tesco HomeGrown National Football League Division 4
Roscommon 3-12 Louth 0-04

Ballyfeeney Rock sponsored Roscommon Senior Ladies are still top of Division 4 table with four wins out of four following a comprehensive victory over Louth in Strokestown on Sunday afternoon last. This was a very important win for the Roscommon ladies as it guarantee’s them top of the table spot and a perfect chance to make it to the final as first plays fourth on the table in the semi-finals.

The Roscommon ladies got the perfect start a point from play from Jenny Higgins within forty five seconds of the throw in her club mate Martina Freyne extended the lead to two a minute later.  The first of Roscommon’s three goals came in the fifth minute a long ball out of defence by Gillian Dufficy was gathered by Natalie McHugh on the forty five metre line she showed a clean pair of heels to her marker and fired to the bottom corner of the Una Pearson’s net. McHugh extended Roscommon’s lead to six with an excellent point on the run. Siobhan Tully extended the Roscommon lead to seven with a fine individual score on the quarter hour mark.
Roscommon were the dominant team at this stage and finished the half very strong and went on to score a further 2-02, a Laura Fleming point in the eighteenth minute was followed by a pointed free from Martina Freyne. A Jenny Higgins point in the twenty third minute left it 1-08 to no score, two further goals the first from Siobhan Tully from the edge of the large parallelogram. Laura Fleming got her second point of the afternoon a minute later. Martina Freyne finished what was a good first half for the Roscommon ladies with a super goal into the top corner to leave it Roscommon 3-09 Louth 0-00 at the break.

With the game over as a contest Kieran Kilkenny and his management team made five substitutions at the break. Roscommon ran out comfortable winner on a final score line of Roscommon 3-12 Louth 0-04 Roscommon points coming from McHugh two 1 free and half time substitute Niamh Ward, scorers for Louth Suzan Byrne, Lisa McGuire one each and Kate Flood two.

James Irwin Construction sponsored U-14 ladies headed to a very cold wet windy  Tubbercurry on Saturday afternoon last to take on Sligo in the first round of the Connacht Championship and recorded a facile victory over the Yeats County. The strong wind favoured neither team as it blew from right to left. Roscommon started the game brightly and hit the Sligo net within fifty seconds of the throw in, a goal courtesy of Sinead Glennon. Louise Brady added a second a minute later. The game was over as a contest as early as the seventh minute as the Roscommon girls ran into a 4-02 to 0-00 lead. By half time Roscommon had stretched the lead 5-12 to 1-01 for Sligo other goals coming from Aoife Gavin Heather Payne and a second from Brady.

Roscommon inflicted further pain on the Sligo in the second half so much so that the electronic scoreboard rand out of place such was the relentlessness of the Roscommon team. Final score Roscommon 10-19 Sligo 2-03
